Learn to Believe in Yourself with these 15 Quotes

Nothing in life is achievable if we don’t believe in ourselves, and everything is if we do!  If that hasn’t already been said, I’m claiming it!  Lol.  If you know me you know I love, love, love quotes.  I don’t care how cheesy or overdone you think they are; these people have been quoted for a reason!  They had the insight and the ability to put it into words that impact us unlike anyone else.  And that is why they have been immortalized through these quotes.

These short, to-the-point, often one-liners, can make a huge impact.  And when it comes to wanting to believe in yourself, quotes can be a handy go-to, to pick us up off the ground.  So, with that said, I’ve put together some of those very impactful one-liners for us, to give us a bit of a wake-up call.   I’ve also added my own take on their message.  I hope the quotes (and the blog!)  inspire you to believe in yourself!

Write your own Story

I love the message behind this selection of quotes.  I know it took a real shake up in my own life for me to finally realize that I not only needed to write my own story, but that I can!  Learning to trust in yourself, see your own value and go after what you want is way harder than it should be, but we can all do it if we believe we can.  Going for what you want in life takes constant reminding of your why, your strengths and repeated flexing of your resilience muscles!  It takes believing in yourself.

I chose these quotes because, even although it may not be easy, they remind you that at the end of the day, you are the author of your own story.  And you can choose how to create the main character!  Choose who you want that person to be, what character traits, what skills, strengths and weaknesses etc.  Choose wisely because your choices matter.  These quotes underline for me that to write your own story quite simply begins with believing that you can.

“We are who we believe we are.”

C.S Lewis

“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.” J.M. Barrie

j-m-barrie-quote

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

Eleanor Roosevelt

“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.”

Rumi

The message is how you see yourself.  So, how do you see yourself?  Your entire life experience comes down to how you see yourself.  Don’t see yourself as a failure or inadequate.  Rather, see yourself as unique, worthy and skilled.  Look for your good qualities and focus on them.  Use them to write the story of your life.  Use them to create the person you want to show up as.  Build the image in your mind of the best, most confident version of you and use it as a focus point, an ‘end goal’.  Keep moving towards that vision everyday and one day you’ll realize you’ve been living it all along.  That person needs to be born in your heart before they can be born in reality.

Do you believe you can be that person that you see in your mind?  Do you have what it takes?  If we can realize that the obstacles are more often than not in our minds and that we are 100 times more capable than we give ourselves credit for, we can start to see a light, an opportunity, where we never did before.  But, until we see ourselves as worthy and capable of being that version of ourselves we will stay stuck.  Believe that if you have a desire to be that person then you have the ability to become that person.  Take that first step towards creating your best self, and your best life.

Believe in your Dreams

What vision do you have for your future?  What is stopping you from achieving it?  We easily find reasons why we can’t have what we want.  We fight for our limitations.  Why wouldn’t we fight for our worth and purpose instead?  These ‘believe in yourself quotes’ really help us to see where we are letting ourselves down.  We have the ability to change our mindset, perspective and future if we choose to.  Choose to hold your dreams up to a higher priority than anything else.  Choose yourself.  It is your life.  To live it with no dream to chase is leaving yourself open to regret, and that is something no body wants or deserves.  Go for your dreams, chase them down and never give up!

Do you believe that your dreams are some cruel joke?  That you’ve been given a burning desire for something completely unattainable?  What cruel world have you conjured up in your mind that you can’t see the possibility of your dreams actually becoming a reality for you?  I believe our dreams are strongly connected to our purpose and that it is only the fear (sometimes of success!) that stands in our way.  If we can learn to shift our perspective to that of ‘this was meant for me’ maybe we would develop a grit and determination to stay the course and never give up on our dreams.  Would you stay the course for the fulfilment of a dream?

“If you can dream it, you can do it.”

Walt Disney

“Create the highest grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.”

Oprah Winfrey

“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sail. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Mark Twain

“Life is like riding a bicycle.  To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

Albert Einstein

We often hear the phrase ‘dare to dream’ and I think this is rather a sad idea.  I don’t believe we should be spreading these ideas around that dreams are unattainable.  We should be saying things like ‘life was made for the fulfilment of your dreams!’.  I know, it’s way more long winded, not as catchy, but isn’t the message so much better!  It’s the same nasty old snake rearing it’s ugly head, we are just too good at arguing for our limitations once again.  Let’s flip the script, raise the bar and hold our dreams up to the stars.

What if all it takes is just to believe!  What if, just like in the fairytales, the magic only exists when we believe in it?  I am inclined to think this is exactly how it is.  Life will always be challenging, but if we believe in the beauty and magic of life imagine what we can achieve?  If we dare to see our highest potential and all the reasons why would can achieve great things.

Never underestimate your Abilities

It pains me to think of how we underestimate ourselves.  We always believe that everyone around us is one step ahead, and we are lagging behind.  If we could give ourselves the same respect as we give to others we could do such great things!  Ask yourself why you think that your friend, boss, parent or even your role model is ‘better’ than you.  Chances are there are one of two situations here.  One: you aren’t comparing apples with apples ie. they may be better at one thing but you’re forgetting to mention that you’re better at another; or you haven’t seen behind the scenes of their lives.  Nobody gets life handed to them.  If they are doing well, they worked for it!  If you apply the same amount of pressure to your lump of coal, you’ll get your very own diamond.

Sometimes we are only a few steps behind those who we admire.  But, we don’t see that!  We only see that we aren’t there yet.  Look at how far you’ve come.  When you look back and see the path of growth behind you, you can put things into perspective.  You can see that, maybe you are on the right trajectory after all!  Being a step behind only means you have one more step, one more lesson, one more moment of self belief, before you are in the exact same position as the person you admire.  Give yourself a chance.

“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy.”

Norman Vincent Peale

“If you hear a voice within you say that you cannot paint, then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”

 Vincent Van Gogh

vincent-van-gogh-quote

“If you are insecure, guess what? The rest of the world is too. Do not overestimate the competition and underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.”

T. Harv Eker

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

 Arthur Ashe

The message from these quotes is clear.  Yes, you can!  You are as capable as anyone else, AND if you aren’t, keep working on it!  The most successful people in this world didn’t sit back and wait for success to come to them.  Nobody, ever, had success knock on their door without them lifting a finger.  Remember that, because every day that you don’t believe you are good enough is another opportunity to BE good enough.

Perspective always works

There’s nothing quite like a little bit of perspective, am I right?  If you are struggling with self belief maybe it’s time to look back at how far you’ve come.  Now, I understand that growth is not linear and you may feel like you’re in a place where my advice to look at your progress is a smack in the face, but I urge you to look for where you’ve grown.  It may be that you’ve grown stronger emotionally.  It may be that you’ve grown intellectually through studies.  Or, it may be that you’ve grown spiritually.  Even on our worst days there is always something to reflect on, some area of our lives where we have grown as a person.  Find this now and use it to inspire you, to remind you that you have come so far in life.

“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has many–not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”

Charles Dickens

“You’ve been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked.  Try approving of yourself and see what happens.”

Louise Hay

Trust Yourself

Plus and unknow gem:

‘A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because its trust is not on the branch but on its own wings.’ – Unknown

I have to end off with this beautiful quote.  I don’t know who said this, but it is both powerful and beautiful.  For me it is a reminder to believe in yourself as well as a reminder to trust spiritually that you are supported.  When we trust ourselves, believe in ourselves, become our own biggest fans, we step fully into our own power.  We don’t need to fret over the details, or be bolstered by the approval of others.  We know our own power.

The entire theme of this blog is believe in yourself.  I have chose these believe in yourself quotes because I believe that everything revolves around how much value you place on yourself.  The way you experience this life is determined by how you choose to a) view yourself, and b) show up for yourself.  You have to believe you are worthy of all the good things and you have to believe you have it within you to make it happen.  Give yourself credit, you are a walking miracle after all!
